Hirschmann Car Communication launches Hirschmann Solutions business unit

New business unit with customised communication solutions for
the M2M and telematic market .

Neckartenzlingen, 13 March 2012 – Hirschmann Car Communication is launching a new business unit called Hirschmann Solutions. This means the company is offering its customers outside the automotive industry more custom-tailored solutions for wireless communication than ever before. Alongside the existing Antenna and Tuner Systems business units, Hirschmann Solutions is the third mainstay of the company.

“Many of our projects have shown that we are already providing individual solutions to customers outside the automotive business”, says Ludwig Geis, CEO of Hirschmann Car Communication. “With the launch of Hirschmann Solutions, we want to strengthen further our project business. To do this we are also creating new organisational structures and building a highly motivated team of specialists.”

The automatic exchange of data between widely differing devices – known as machine-to-machine communication – is an emerging market. The range of applications that Hirschmann Car Communication can tap into with the new business unit is extensive, and ranges from remote monitoring of varying work processes, location-tracking of mobile objects via GPS (to monitor containers, for example, or locate stolen lorries), communication between industrial machinery via WLAN, up to smart metering, the automatic reading of gas, water and electricity meters.

“The potential of machine-to-machine communication is huge”, says Laurie Burns, head of the new Hirschmann Solutions business unit. “We envisage lots of points of contact to the transport and logistics industries in particular. But the world is becoming more connected elsewhere, too. It is a large market, and the spectrum of possible applications is broad. We are excited to see what solutions my team and I can come up with for our customers.”
